HEAVY EQUIPMENT OPERATOR / PIPE LAYER

Ramshorn Construction, Inc. is looking for a highly motivated individual to join our team as a heavy equipment operator for underground utility's construction. Ramshorn Construction, Inc provides utility construction services general underground utility construction.
Duties and Responsibilities:
The Operator position will be responsible for OSHA compliant safe and efficient operation of heavy equipment and machinery (330, 10 hyd, 8 hyd, 320 excavators, dozers, mini excavators, back hoe, track hoe, skid steer etc.). The Operator will be responsible for excavating manhole, hand hole/vaults, trenches, laying pipe, water and vacuum testing, compaction and back-fill excavations. This position will also be working along with other crew members performing other duties as assigned.
Responsibilities:
• Operate all heavy machinery in a safe manner.
• Identify utilities in the trench/ bore path
• Follow all on-site safety procedures.
• Setup, preparation, and cleanup of excavation sites.
• Excavate trenches, back-fill excavations, and compact/level earth to grade specifications
• Perform restoration of excavation sites
• Work with a positive attitude
• Ensure optimal and efficient use of all available resources, equipment, supplies, and materials
• Ensure safe equipment operation, tools, and conditions on all sites
• Keeps work site neat and orderly
• Perform other tasks assigned by the Project Foreman, Superintendent and/or Project Manager
Position Qualifications:
• 3 - 5 years of heavy equipment with underground utility experience
• Valid driver's license
• Transportation
• Strong focus on quality and safety
• All employees must pass drug/alcohol screening
• Ability to travel as required
• Ability to work in adverse weather conditions

Certified Diesel Mechanic

Hiring a Certified Diesel Mechanic with DOT inspection certification who is responsible for the maintenance and servicing of fleet vehicles and heavy machinery without direction. Responsible for maintaining all aspects of shop equipment, supplies, safety, and appearance.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities:

  • Perform mechanical and general appearance reconditioning of equipment
  • Identify and determine parts required for repair of disassembled units
  • Perform all levels of preventive maintenance services
  • Identify repairs and document on repair order
  • Maintain work area appearance and safety
  • Road test vehicles when necessary to diagnose malfunctions or to ensure that they are working properly
  • Use hand tools such as screwdrivers, pliers, wrenches, pressure gauges, and precision instruments as well as power tools such as pneumatic wrenches, welding equipment, and jacks and hoists
  • Track and Perform routine maintenance such as changing oil, checking batteries, and lubricating equipment and machinery
  • Adjust and replace brakes, tighten bolts and screws, and reassemble equipment
  • Inspect, test, and listen to defective equipment to diagnose malfunctions, using test instruments such as handheld computers, motor analyzers, pressure gauges, as well as multi-meters
  • Examine and adjust protective guards, loose bolts, and specified safety devices
  • Inspect and verify dimensions and clearances of parts to ensure conformance to factory specifications
  • Specialize in repairing and troubleshooting of major components such as engines, transmissions, and differentials, to include replacing complete assemblies, turbochargers, fuel system components, and replacing excavator and loader tracks, etc.
  • Other projects and tasks as assigned relating to equipment and shop maintenance

Required Skills
Qualifications

  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to work independently and perform each essential duty satisfactorily while maintaining shop equipment, oversee the order of parts and supplies along with shop cleanliness and safety. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and/or abilities required

Physical Requirements

  • Lift tools, machinery parts, and other objects weighing between 60-80 pounds each
  • Endure intermittent bending, crouching, pushing, pulling, stooping and reaching
  • Standing for an extended period of time
  • Able to work under extreme conditions such as hot or cold temperatures, noise, dust, and dirt – travel when required to work location to perform on-location repairs.

Required Experience

  • High School diploma or equivalent desired
  • Prefer 1-3 year's experience
  • Vocational / Technical School or certification preferred
  • Specialized training in the repair and replacement of heavy vehicle and heavy equipment components preferred
  • Proficiency in the use of shop tools required and ownership of a mechanic set optional
  • Valid driver license required
  • Certified to perform DOT inspections:

    • (i) Successfully completed a Federal-or State-sponsored training program or have a certificate from a State or Canadian Province that qualifies the individuals to perform commercial motor vehicle safety inspections, or
    • (ii) Have a combination of training or experience totaling at least 1 year. Such training or experience may consist of:
    • (A) Participation in a commercial motor vehicle manufacturer-sponsored training program or similar commercial training program designed to train students in commercial motor vehicle operation and maintenance;
    • (B) Experience as a mechanic or inspector in a motor carrier or intermodal equipment maintenance program;
    • (C) Experience as a mechanic or inspector in commercial motor vehicle maintenance at a commercial garage, fleet leasing company, or similar facility; or
    • (D) Experience as a commercial motor vehicle inspector for a State, Provincial or Federal government.
